About: Gilles Berthoud

Gilles Berthoud is a legend - those of you who are touring cyclists are bound to know of him. For thirty one years he has been refining his vision of the classic French touring bicycle and making a wonderful hand crafted luggage range. Now, to much acclaim he is branching out into new areas and Amba is very proud to be representing him in the UK.

Gilles Bethoud is a man of passion, with energy and drive. He wants everything to be the best possible down to the last detail. With this in mind Gilles decided to make his own leather saddles, bar tape, grips, bar end plugs and mud flaps. He has designed a five point CNC machine to cut the leather for the saddles and created a completely new system for attaching the saddles to frames. He has applied his extraordinary design skills to combine the luxury of top grade leather with modern technologies to make leather saddles that will outlast any other make on the market many times over. To top this no chemicals are used to dye the leather and each saddle top is hand softened to reduce the 'break in' time.

He has also designed some carbon fibre and stainless steel mudguards. The guards are elegant in design whilst functional and with a whole style of their own. Why not take a look at the details on the site.
